They call me The Workin' Man... (10K KIRIBAN)

Journal Entry: Mon Oct 3, 2011, 3:09 PM

Yep, with limited access to a computer, my job, and sheer laziness, I've spent most of my time away from here. In fact, I've barely even sketched.

This must be rectified.

I'll be doing my best to get back to sketching and uploading here, but it takes time. But in the meantime, I thought I should throw up a Journal. Especially since...
I FINALLY HIT 10K VIEWS! Fuckin' sweet! I know someone caught that 10k Kiriban, so send me the screen or a link to it, and let's get started on it! And since it's one of those special kiribans, I'm willing to go all-out here.

I'd like to direct your attention to my newest piece to the left: "DU Filler Art-Final". Why? Because it's my first filler art for a webcomic, which is nice.

Also, I'll be giving away sketches and shit soon, so stay tuned for that. ANd please, don't forget that I'm selling prints! Want a bit of nature or aviation photography for a print, a mousepad, or something else? Perhaps a gift for a friend? Check out my Prints!

STay frosty, dA.

By that I mean 10k views. I joined here years ago, and I'm just about to reach it. It's kind of sad, especially seeing kids who put 5 minutes of effort into their MS Paint doodle and recieve a crapton of views and replies. But, I suppose that's how it goes on dA, hm?

There'll be a kiriban for 10k, of course. I'm doing random sketches in anticipation. :3 Make sure you catch it!

I'm also sketching re-dos of old characters for a storyline/personal universe/potential webcomic I'm creating with :iconsundavid168: . I think you'll like it.

As you can see to the right, my comissions are open, but those prices are incorrect. Because right now, it's all FREE. I mean, at my skill level, I don't know if I could charge someone. That wouldn't be fair, and I'm not a cheat.

I'll throw up a few scribblings soon, and I dug up some work from a while back that I never posted, so perhaps that'll go up, too.

Does anyone even read these?........

Stay cool, dA.

Free Commisions n' Stuff

Journal Entry: Fri May 6, 2011, 11:35 PM

So, I need to get back on track with my artwork, dA. I've given myself a long enough break. Now I need YOUR help to get up and running again. So for a while, I'll do sketches, chibis, aircraft, your OC, my OC, both, whatever. Just give me a reasonnable request and help me flex my artistic muscles again.

So, how about it, deviantART?

Motivation is my biggest problem when it comes to my artwork. Not that I hate drawing. On the contrary-it's just that i'm easily distracted by other things. It pains me, especially looking through my gallery. I miss it.

And that's where you come in, reader. I'm looking for Art Trades, Requests, Collab requests, whatever. Don't expect anything spectacular, but I tend to do better under the pressure of a deadline anyway. :3

Also, as you can see, I have opened Commissions! I'm dirt-cheap, but I'd feel bad charging any more at my skill level. So, why not help me out! Give yourself  a nice custom piece of art, and give me the satisfaction of finally being able to sell my work.

Dave and I are also working on a project to design our own little universe. Eventually, I intend to make a webcomic in it, but first we'll be putting up sketches, stories and designs, and so forth.
However, if you want to help us out with the stories here, please send me a Note. I'm less of a writer than an illustrator, so help from someone more experienced is always appreciated.

And that's all, really. Stay frosty, dA.

Looks like all our snow here is gone. Finally.

I really have nothing to say, but I want to try this skin I tweaked. Yeah, I juust redirected the links and whatnot, but still. I'm not advertising for someone else, unless you're paying me, of course.

The "My Gaming Clan" link to the right leads to the forums that :iconsundavid168: and I are making. I gotta make some ads or something, though.

The Youtube link goes to mine.

Other than that, I've got nothing.

LATE REPLY IS LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE

Journal Entry: Mon Apr 4, 2011, 2:08 PM

So, as I sifted through my gallery, I noticed I had comments without replies from almost a year ago! My apologies.

:iconbelow-the-radar: , the Group I run, is having a contest, and you could win stuff, like subscriptions! If you think you're up to it, go take a look. Yes, I'm whoring my own Group out, but damnit, I'm sick of my contests just dying.

My NIEN THOWSANDth view-kiriban was caught, but the extra-special 10k kiriban will be here soon. Don't miss it!

The weather is clearing up her, but nature, ah, she is fickle. Only time will tell how thing will turn.

I may start playing Battlefield 2 and 2142 online again, and I'm thinking about renting a server. And if you want Battlefield 2 or 2142  for free, let me know. I'll fill you in.

That's all, I guess. Good hunting, dA.

Turning my back on the Past

Journal Entry: Sat Apr 2, 2011, 1:52 AM

So, the other day, I went and threw out a lot of old artwork. Concepts, sketches, and a lot of junk. Most of it never got posted online because it was crap. It was all from my early time as an artist. That being said, it was an odd feeling to reflect on the sheafs of paper, and I hesitated out of sheer nostalgia to destroy them. But reason won over. It's gone.

But that being said, how do you, reader, deal with old artwork? do you throw it away? Keep it for years like I did? Do you spend time reflecting on the events at hand when you did that piece?
Do you quietly reflect on what could have been if you took a different artistic pathÉ

I suppose this is just one of those random late-night thoughts. Inconsiquential, yet meaningful, in a way.

Stay frosty, dA. And good night for now.

Yep, I'm close to having OVER NINE THOWSAAAAAND Pageviews. Huzzah. SO, I will be doing a Kiriban. A real one. It will most likely be late, sketchy and poorly drawn, but after such a long absence from drawing, it's to be expected, I suppose.

Uh...hm. Well, it's cold out. Is that news? Not really. Oh, and Japan got PWNED by a HUEG earthquake. But to me, that's not a huge concern. Japan is well-funded and well-equipped for this, and they lead the world in earthquake preparation. So all you broads on the radio, TV, or the 'net? As Redford from Bad company 2 said, "Simmer the FUCK down, your time'll come."
Japan has MILLIONS of dollars. Your scrounging of a few hundred is worthless. Your government is most likely ready to help Japan, as they would if it was you or me.
That being said, my heart goes out to everyone affected by this disaster.

I'm waiting for Eluvietie to come back to Edmonton again. We miss you and your glorious metal.

Oh, hey, I made some art? That's right! It's been a while, but I wanted to try Abstract work again. But I've still go so much to do...

Eh, I got a job at a pet food factory, driving a forklift. So if you buy the Acana or Orijen brand, you can think of me next time you serve it. Sure, the work is shitty and smelly, but $18 an hour is nice.

I'm still saving for a car, perhaps a nice Jetta. Then a laptop. DO WANT.

Eh, hm, I don't have much to say. I'm just a boring guy, I guess. C'est la vie.

I'll be around, dA. Be seeing you.

Hey, look at that. Besides over 100,000 messages in my inbox, nothing has changed here, eh? Comforting.
So, I guess an update is in order? Really? Well, if I must.

-I'm taking courses to begin training as a pilot, and I'm probably going to take some art classes. I basically taught myself, so if I want to get better, some formal training is in order. And I do want to get better. But what with my recent moving, my jobs, gaming, and sheer laziness, I haven't done any art for months. I must get on that. I know I'm no great shakes at art, but it's so satisfying to share it here.

-My 10k pageview Commission is coming up soon, so let me know if you catch it, ok?

-Alberta won't stop acting like a douche and give us clear-cut weather. Any Canadians will understand.

-I'm considering taking a language course. French, German or Russian, most likely.

-My New Years was great, thanks. I chilled with my best friend, played Call of Duty: Black Ops, and smoked so much weed that I actually saw visions. Then we went to Subway, and life was good.

-I discovered Terry Goodkind, and his Sword of Truth novels. Any self-respecting Fantasy fan needs to reed them.

I have a 360 now. Gamertag is Lumanaru. I can also be found on PSN occasionally as Ayindril.

Uh...hm. I guess I'm out of interesting things to say. I guess I'll be off, then.

Excelsior!

Just Call Me "Noble Six"

Journal Entry: Mon Aug 9, 2010, 12:04 AM

We are so CLOSE to the launch of Halo: Reach.

While this is NOT the last Halo, it is the last one being produced by developer Bungie, with ownership moving to Microsoft's 343 Industries after Reach. So, in essence, it's the last TRUE Halo, and frankly, I don't know if I'll look at subsequent Halos the same way.
That being said, I'm extremely excited. I was in the Reach Beta, and I saw a glimpse of what could be. Needless to say, I was dumbstruck.
I also pre-ordered the Legendary Edition. Some might scoff, but I like the sound of all those extras.

Does anyone else have similar thoughts?

Also, my subscription ends in a week. Oh, well. It WAS free, so I have no reason to complain. I'll just buy another.

So, after all the melodrama, I got myself a job and an apartment. I work in Shipping at EECOL Electric in Edmonton. I basically get paid $2400 a month (something like $14 an hour, I think) to put boxes in other boxes, then ship them, for 8 hours a day. Added to this is that all my bills and food only comes to about $800 a month, and Life seems to be taking a definate upturn for me. :3

I heard yesterday that Canada has chosen to buy 65 of the Lockheed-Martin F-35A Lightning II.
This is, I believe, a wise choice. Our CF-18s are aging, and we NEED a replacement. Of course, Michael Ignatieff, the Offical Opposition's leader, it acting like a whiney, selfish prick, and as much as he tries to look like the good guy, he obviously is only thinking of his own needs here. Come on, Canada, We let the government fuck up the last TAC HELI deal, and while we were GOING to buy the UH-60 Blackhawk, wat did we get instead? The CH-146 Griffon. Sure, it looks ok, but it's really just a Bell 412 with Armor and green paint. Can we really afford to let them fuck this one up? I don't think so.

On a side note, :iconkizunayui-studios: is selling a bunch of comissions, and it's in your best interest to haul ass over to her page. Why? Because it's for a good cause-other deviants who need subs! Yeah, she has told me that you can buy in bulk, and if you do, you save soething like 50%, which is doubly generous! And all the points from the sales go to getting greedy little bastards like you and me FREE SUBS!
Normally, I don't advertise, but hey, it's for a good cause.

Stay cool, dA.

I'm still alive! I think.

I'm not doing any art for a while, though. I just can't. I have my own apartment in Edmonton, and I finally got myself a job. I work 8-4 every day, and I'm gonna save up and take some art classes. See, when I learned how to draw, I eschewed most lessons in favor of learning how to draw by sight. I see now that this was a mistake. If I had a greater knowledge of the human anatomy, of colors and shading, and a myriad of other things, I could achieve greatness. As of now, though, I am wallowing in the throes of mediocrity.

Also, for the next two weeks, I'll be flitting around the Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 servers. I'm also considering starting a clan. So if you want to get your ass walloped online by yours truly, just seek me out. I'm known as Lumanaru on Battlefield, too.

This oil crisis on the Gulf of Mexico is absolutely sickening. To see this kind of disaster just shows how little most people really care about our planet.
But the pictures in the news are just that-pictures. What is needed now is affirmative action, not photos, tragic and heart-wrenching thought they may be.

I'm devising a contest. I know I'm not really that popular, and I know I don't have the influence of someone who does, but I feel the need to…do something!

I'm currently thinking something along the lines of this:

-Contestants will have to donate to enter.

-Entries would (obviously) focus on aspects of the impact of this crisis on the enviroment, the future, etc.

-Winner chooses what charity the money goes to out of a selection of charities or organizations dedicated to asissting against this crisis. Also will win other prizes, depending on who donates.

I don't know. Any feed back, judging volunteers, etc would be nice.

Ah, what do YOU think I should begin to focus on, concerning my artwork? Photography, People, vehicles, sketches, what? It's a frusterating issue. I know I need to work on my shading, coloring, anatomy, etc, but it's not a real issue, especially with :iconsundavid168: 's skills.

I don't know. Just gimmie a shout, dA!

Oh, yeah. If anyone is looking for a new band to get into, I gotta suggest Eluveitie. They're a deliciously different Folk-Metal band. I saw them in concert with Amon Amarth (a Viking Metal band that also warrants attention), and I've never been so entertained at a concert in my life. Just check them out on Youtube or whatever.

Oh, yeah, I heard that Lennon's original, hand-written lyrics for The Beatles' "A Day in the Life" went up for auction. How...quaint.

Yes, I apologize. Days ago, things were collapsing around me. I had discovered that I was being kicked out of my house, I still have no job, etc., and I guess...I overreacted. What I said in my last post about my skills is all true, but to leave dA....is a little much.  I'm sorry for all that.

That being said, any help on how my more "famous" friends and Watchers developed their technique would be nice. :3

Oh, and as for the title, my friends and I have a little inside joke about how Emo/Ravaged/OMGWHAA Hiro Yui is. It'll be like this:

Well, for a long hiatus. I'll be back.

I just....I realized that, well, I fucking suck at drawing. Unless I have a good reference, I can't make ANYTHING. At all. I thought that if I just praticed, I'd get better, but I was wrong. Even when I found :iconsundavid168: , it barely helped, since my shitty lines just ruin it all.  So I'm leaving for a while. I have a job, I'm being kicked out of my house, and this drawing shit is too much.  I'm going to look around for classes, try to figure out what the fuck I'm doing wrong, and come back when I've actually got some fucking talent.

If I owe you a prize, request, or whatever, you'll just have to wait. If you're willing to, I'll make a great one. Otherwise, too bad.

I'll keep an eye on :iconbelow-the-radar: , but Dave, you're in charge for a while. I'll still troll BtR's forums, though.

Yep, there's gonna be a kiriban at 5k views. Be sure to catch it! No, Dave, you don't have to help if you don't want to.
I've got more work to be posted, including some badass lines of a fictional Ace Combat-esque figher jet, and the last of those damn prizes for :iconkatanabrin:'s contest.

Weather is nice, but I'm trying to figure out how to make some cash. Amon Amarth, one of my favorite bands, is coming to Edmonton, and I have to see them. I HAVE to. They rarely come to our backwater city.

I had a little chuckle today when I found that another deviant has blocked me from commenting after I pointed out a piece of his that was pretty much stolen (only the head was really different). It's not an issue, but what's the point of blocking me? Are you afraid other people will find out about the theft? How petty.
I can't be bothered looking for more, but if anyone else sees anything, don't stand for it! Report the little shit.
:iconamusex: is the kid, by the way. Go laugh at his ineptitude.

My next work will be the last prize for :iconkatanabrin: 's contest. Dave is (I assume) already working on the others, or he will be soon.

I'm gonna throw something else up soon, a design for a fictional fighter jet, like something from Namco's Ace Combat series. I'm hoping it's well recieved, but whatever.
